I've never lived in the same town as an H&M, and now that I do, I might be a little obsessed. Sometimes I'll walk in and everything will feel cheap and unflattering, but other times I score multiple items at once. All or nothing, there really isn't an in between!

I went shopping in preparation for my Europe trip (I leave tomorrow!) and scooped up this skirt and top. The detailing of this top really sold me. I typically don't go for button-down shirts outside of work-exclusive clothing, but this shirt was gorgeous enough that I didn't even mind. I can picture me wearing it under dresses or sweaters, too, letting just the collar peek out. Definitely a versatile find -- if you have an H&M, I suggest snagging one!

The skirt is also another fast favorite, especially because it is comfortable and fits exactly the way I like. The burgundy-wine color of this skirt is gorgeous, but now of course I'm agonizing if it's a "summery" enough color to wear in the heat. The honest truth of it is my office is freezing, so while I'm wearing sweaters, I might as well wear burgundy. I'm not sure I really buy into the "certain colors for certain seasons" thing, anyway. I love white in the winter, despite the well-known Labor Day rule. It seems like more and more fashion "rules" are becoming outdated.

Do you believe in banning certain colors during certain seasons?

Daily Outfit: Spring has Sprung

As the weather warms up, I'm feeling inspired by my closet again. Dreary, rainy, windy wintery weather makes it so difficult to want to dress for anything other than survival. (Is that overdramatic? I try not to hate the cold, but I really, really do.) It's so nice to finally pack away my tights and pull out colors other than black.

As usual, Texas has skipped a season and gone straight to summer (we went from 40 and raining to 85 and sunny overnight). I'm enjoying it though, since it won't be long before temperatures reach over 100 degrees!

I really like this outfit because the base is fairly simple, but I can mix it up with accessories for different looks. I tend to go for gold accessories since I rarely get to wear them, but I love having a lot of different options. The combination of the belt, skirt, and cardigan is also a really flattering look for taller, pear-shaped girls like myself. It can be really difficult to find a skirt that hits at the waist (or in this case, a little higher) and is still long enough.

Daily Outfit: Thin Mint

I wore this ModCloth dress that I got on Black Friday (post coming soon!) to go to the first day of the Dallas Digital Summit (another post coming soon! Eek!). I wanted to wear something that was indicative of my personality, but was still conservative enough for business -- well, an internet convention, anyway! I thought the blazer balanced out this super feminine dress nicely. I look forward to finding different ways to combine this dress, for work and otherwise. It's flattering, comfortable, and most of all, exactly my style, so I can see myself wearing it often.

It was interesting going to the Dallas Digital Summit because I'm am 90% sure I am the youngest one who went! Most people I have met so far are there for their company or they own their own company --  I didn't see any other students besides myself and Ana. 

So the combination of the general crowd being at a different phase of life, along with me graduating a year early (and already being a year younger than my "true" grade)... it's no wonder I'm usually the youngest person in the room! Usually, I'm okay with that, but when we are discussing big concepts and money and business, it feels a little intimidating. Do I really belong here? Am I ready for this? Will others take me seriously?

But I felt comfortable by the end of the day, after tweeting with other summit-goers, conversing with people who had been speakers, and writing copious notes. Social media and content creation is my passion! I love learning more about it and meeting others who love it just as much. Moreover, so many people replied to my tweet wondering if I was the youngest there with words of encouragement -- being young means I get an early start. How sweet, right?

I  have a confession: I've never liked the structure of jackets. They always seemed so stiff and formal -- give me a cardigan any day! And I could never find one that seemed to fit right -- too boxy, too big or too small in random places, unflattering. Plus, how do you even wear a blazer?

Despite my hesitance about jackets as a whole, I ordered this blazer online to give it a shot. I thought it was coral, my favorite color of the moment, but it turned out to be red. I love it anyway and have been wearing it since I got it.

In other news, I've been watching Once Upon a Time on Netflix lately -- have any of you guys seen it? It's reimagined fairy tales in the modern day with some crazy twists, and I can't stop watching! I'm not usually big on currently airing TV shows, but I know I'll be keeping up with Once Upon a Time this season. What about you guys? What are you watching lately?

Work it Wednesday: 50 Shades of Grey

I know I just posted about workplace blues last week, but I'm already feeling a little better about my work wardrobe. This new skirt is wonderful. I picked it up at Goodwill for about $6, and it is originally from Gap. The coolest part is it has pockets! That's always such a great surprise.

It's crazy how a few small changes, like a new skirt or different hairstyle, can change your perspective. I actually really, really like this outfit! I want to continue to challenge myself with my work outfits to keep them interesting.

I have these little hair braids on each side. When my hair's a little longer, I'll do a bun instead of a ponytail. You can also see my new triple lobe piercing a little bit! 

From far away, you can't tell this skirt has a pattern -- but it does! Polka dots! I feel like this ties in the pearls even more because it repeats the shape.

Work outfits can easily be boring to me. Wearing the same silhouette is both relieving and limiting. I like being able to simply choose pieces and not worry if an outfit looks good on me, but sometimes I get frustrated with having fewer choices. It doesn't help that I dislike a lot of traditional work clothing, like nice slacks.

To counteract this feeling of being stuck with my clothes, I try to get brightly colored cardigans so I'm not just wearing neutral colors all the time. Colorful shoes are also fun! Sometimes, even a small changes makes an outfit feel brand new. Of course, flowers are present in my wardrobe for both work and play, and different jewelry also helps alleviate work wardrobe boredom. Do you have any tips and tricks for keeping a work outfit a little more interesting?

Have I mentioned my tragus piercing on here? I got it done in January, mostly to prove to myself that I am brave and can do things that terrify me. It's my favorite little addition to my ear I just think it's so cute! I also have my lobes double pierced, and I just recently got my third lobe done on my other ear. My ears aren't usually showing because of my hair, but I love them all the same.

So I've decided to start a new series called... Work it Wednesday! On Wednesdays, I'll feature work outfits. Hopefully this will encourage me to mix it up a little bit -- my work outfits can be repetitive.

I adore this shirt. I picked it up when I was out back-to-school shopping with my family. I never usually like button-downs, but this one is so soft and wearable, I forget that it's related to those other stiff, uncomfortable shirts in my closet. And, best of all, it matches so many things already in the "work" section of my closet.

As an attempt to bring more color into my wardrobe, I also obtained some new colored flats instead of my main go-to, grey, black, or white. They have gotten tons of wear already and I really feel like they give this outfit the kick it needs.

These photos are the first attempt at using my new tripod! (Thanks, Colby!) Hopefully I will be able to find some better areas to take pictures now that I have my own tripod. I really want to improve my self-portraits for this blog. Some of these photos came out dark and blurry, so I still need practice, but I look forward to improving.
