Beauty: Coconut Oil

Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil Giveaway

I am always on the hunt for beauty products or treatments that satisfy a few main requirements: as natural as possible, inexpensive, and simple. I am concerned about the safety of a lot of products used in standard beauty products, but I don't have a lot of money to shell out for the newest, high-end, natural products, either.

That means that I usually look to simple solutions that I find online. I don't use shampoo, I use olive oil as a facial cleanser, and now, I use coconut oil to treat my hair.

Coconut oil is great for your insides, so I already had a jar used for cooking. If you don't already own some, search for organic virgin coconut oil. This will ensure that you are only using the coconut oil and not anything processed! Coconut oil is anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal, as well as incredibly moisturizing.

I have always had dry hair, a dry scalp, and dry skin, despite growing up in a humid place! My skin is just naturally thirsty. I found out coconut oil, despite being awesome to cook with, can also be used to treat this and more.

To treat dry hair and scalp, you simple run coconut oil through your hair, focusing on the ends (the dried parts) and massaging it into your scalp. For an added bonus, rub some on your face and rough patches on your skin as well. Leave for about 20 minutes before showering, and be sure to rinse it all off. You will smell great and feel soft! This treatment will also help with any sort of skin or scalp condition, such as dandruff, eczema, or psoriasis.

Here are a few more things that coconut oil works wonders for:
  • Delaying wrinkles and firming skin
  • Removing makeup
  • Adding shine, smoothing frizz, and as gel (in curly or wavy hair)
  • Moisturizing lip balm
  • Shaving cream
  • ... and much, much more!

What are your requirements for beauty treatments? Will you try using coconut oil?

Do you try to stick with natural ingredients? Or does it not matter if it works? Inquiring minds want to know!

  1. This is my favorite post ever! HAHA I use coconut oil and apple cider vinegar for EVERYTHING!!! It is definitely a great thing for me to shave with and leaves my legs feeling nice and smooth and NOT irritated :) Such a good beauty tip! It's also great to "wash" your face with since it helps to reduce redness. Rub some onto your face and then use diluted ACV on a washcloth to rinse it off. Hello beautifully smooth face!

  2. I think we have something in common, Mia! :) I also use coconut oil to treat my hair. It really makes my hair feel so soft, smooth and tangle-free. I've been using it for more than a year already, actually.

  4. Actually psoriasis shouldn't be treated with oils or anything that will cause build up and the plaques to clump together. If you use oil on psoriasis than the other treatments (coal tar, etc.) cannot penetrate. At least this is what I've read!
