Cosplay: 2014 Goals

2014 cosplay goals

Happy New Year! I hope you celebrated the new year in a way that makes you happy. I want to share my cosplay goals for 2014 with all of you!

My cosplay has sort of taken a back seat since I started grad school. School takes up a lot more time now, so it's a lot harder to find time to work on new costumes. I decided that making a list of my 2014 cosplay goals will help me schedule out my progress and make it more likely for me to complete more time-consuming costumes. I want to keep learning more and more about making costumes and props!

Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones: I have been obsessed with Game of Thrones lately, and Dany is my favorite character! I'd love to replicate her outfit from the red waste, especially the scene where she eats the horse heart. I love fake blood during Halloween, so why not cosplay?

Mami Tomoe from Puella Magi Madoka Magica: My favorite magical girl from my favorite magical girl series! Her full-on magical girl outfit is a little intimidating for my current skill level. Working on her school uniform first should give me some of the pieces I need while leveling up my costuming skill. Hopefully in the future I'll be able to do her adorable magical girl outfit.

Cheryl/Carol from Archer: If you haven't started watching Archer yet, you totally should. It's hilarious and it's on Netflix. It's a little difficult to cosplay from this show because everyone is so distinctive looking. I'm going as Cheryl/Carol to Liz's Pam.

Codex from The Guild: This costume looks deceptively simple, but I'm planning on learning how to make a corset with this costume - eek! I also want to use worbla for the first time. I'm hoping to have it done for SDCC.

Princess Yue from Avatar: The Last Airbender: I've had the materials for this costume for a while, but I keep having setbacks when I go to work on it. I decided that I'll definitely get it completed this year.

Most likely, not all these costumes will be completed and a few random last-minute ones will show up. I think starting the year with some clear goals will help me schedule my work a little bit better and hopefully get a few of these harder cosplays done!

Do you have any goals for 2014?

  1. I don't consider myself a cosplayer in the true sense of the word, but I loved making a Doctor Who inspired creationtis past November, so I do teally want to dive more into that world. I also want to practice corset making as well! As for other goals.. I'd like to work on making my blog better and expanding it ;)

    1. Me too - I really dig when people do a play-by-play of their costumes. That's why I post about mine! I find it really helpful.

  8. Oooh, I can't wait to see what you come up with. I've been wanting to do a Danaerys costume for a while now, and 2014 might just be the year I take the leap!

  9. I'm going to try Worbla for the first time this year for my C2E2 costume. I'm a little intimidated by it though, lol.

    1. To tell the truth, I'm intimidated by it too! That's why I'm hoping to use it for some smaller pieces before launching into something crazy, like full armor. We'll see how it goes!

  11. I don't watch Game of Thrones but the Daenerys Targarye cosplay looks like it'll be more complex and different than your usual style, so I'm excited to see it!
