RTX 2014: Street Style

I love merging style and geek culture, and since I wasn't cosplaying at Rooster Teeth Expo, I decided to photograph street style this year. This was my first time taking photos of other people like this, and I had a lot of fun with it!

Austin is known to be a fashion-forward city, and geek girls have some mad style, so I found no shortage of awesome outfits this weekend! I only wish I'd been able to photograph more people.

My friend Jelfish matched her outfit to her gorgeous purple hair with a galaxy dress, ombre tights, and cloud-shaped purse. I also love her necklace supporting her company's game, Capsule Force!

I loved this retro lady - look at that gorgeous hairdo and spot-on makeup! I spotted her dress from across the hall and knew I needed to take her photo.

Cute dress, structured jacket, and convention-appropriate shoes - love it!

I love skirt-overalls, too cute. Paired with a matching bandeau, boots, and sunglasses, she's ready for anything that could come her way.

A con celebrating video games seems like the perfect place to wear this blood splatter dress! She informed me it's from Black Milk. For similar styles, Gold Bubble Clothing is also an option.

This trio looked like they could be comfortable at a con or a music festival. The matching converse are a sweet touch.

Another trio in Converse! I love the fun hair colors too.

This woman's whole outfit was super adorable - if you look close, you can see her Sailor Moon necklace and heart-shaped sunglasses!

I think these ladies nailed it! Comfortable yet stylish, with a few geeky touches here and there - that's the perfect formula for a convention outfit.

What do you usually wear to a convention?

I need a(nother) galaxy dress in my life, pronto! It's been ages since I've cosplayed (and when I did, I was incredibly young and un-skilled and would probably look back now and shake my head in embarrassment) so I usually opt for casual geekiness and comfort. Lutece tee with a cardigan? Yep. Batman sweatshirt? Yep. Galaxy dress - yep!

Love that blood spatter dress! And I wish I had the patience to learn how to style retro hair. It always looks so fabulous.

OMG loveeeee that retro lady/dress!! Why is everyone so cute and I want all their clothes?! XD

I've only gone to a few conventions but if I were just photographing, probably a comfy tee and jeans.. :D

So many adorable looks! & I love how diverse everything is from retro dresses to denim shorts. I usually wear comfy oxfords and a fit and flare dress to cons if I'm not in cosplay :)

Cosplay, of course! Hehehe. But if I'm needing a break, it's usually a teeshirt related to my interests, cat gear and shorts/jeans. :33

So many cool outfits! I need that blood spatter dress in my life.

I haven't been to a con in a few years, but my uniform of choice was always a geeky t-shirt tucked into a skirt... nothing too fancy. :)

I usually dress similar to these ladies. Comfy dress, geeky tee and a skirt, with some chucks! :)

I haven't been to a con yet (sadly) But I thought if I did go I'd be in costume most of the time. I love love LOVE all of these outfits, especially the first two! And you captured them so nicely too! :)

I love the blood splatter dress! Everyone looks wonderful in these shots! The last time I went to Dragon*Con in ATL, I dressed up as Blaine from "Glee". I know, I know - it didn't exactly go with Dragon*Con's theme but I love the Warbler blazer that I made that year and I wore it every chance I got! I plan on doing something Sailor Moon-theme this year but I don't know if I want to be Sailor Mars or Catsy, of the Four Sisters (for obvious reasons!) =^.^=

Yesss, the world needs more fashionable geeky ladies...!! I adore that cloud shaped bag! ^^

Even if I'm not sporting an elaborate, detailed costume, I still wear simpler, easy wardrobe - cosplays, steampunk outfits or some geeky printed t - shirts with accessories like a random colorful wig, kitten ears, a unicorn horn...you know, something cute. :)
